Mother Honoree:  Marie Rita Mimms Jenkins, 1918 – 2008

“My late mother, Marie Rita Mimms Jenkins, was a strong, brave, compassionate, and very intelligent woman who, in many ways, exemplified the “Great Generation”of which she was a part. She raised my two sisters and me to believe that girls could accomplish anything. She stood up for her principles and beliefs, and she encouraged us, in word and deed, to value education. My mom had to put her dreams of college on hold due to the Depression, World War Ii, and then raising a famile but, in her late 60s, she enrolled in Brooklyn College, and graduated magna cum laude with a joint degree in psychology and women’s studies. Of course. I honor her this Mother’s Day and always.”  ~ Susan Jenkins

Mother Honoree:  Janice Laben

“Janice is the best mother and grandmother a person could have. She has always been loving, supportive, kind and generous to her seven children and two grandchildren. She was a homebirthing mama and inspired me to become one as well. I love my mom!”  ~ Leah Laben
